Topics for the Coming Issues

Feeding the Gestating Finn
There's some discussion about what it takes to get a ewe who might be carrying quintuplets through pregnancy, parturition and lactation. What works for you? Please write and let us know.

Breeder and Sales Ethics

  • What is the right way, the honest way to sell brood stock?

  • How can we protect our reputations as breeders?

  • What kinds of disclosure do we owe our buyers?

  • What simple and clear method can be developed to carry out these ideas?

  • What remedies are there for unethical dealings?

Are these questions we should be considering? What do you think?

Tightening the Breed Standard.
Should we require that rams born in the Spring be triplets and that Fall born rams be twins?
Which is better, a sextuplet from a ewe that raises three lambs or a quad from a ewe that raised all four unassisted?
Do we want Finns to be thought of as mothers of many lambs or as sheep that can bring all their lambs from birth to weaning without supplementation? There are good arguments for both views.
How can the breed standard be improved? Or is it fine as it is?
